Video Production Software

As with any other type of software what you need depends on what you want to do with it. In fact if you are running Windows XP then you already have a basic production program called Windows Movie Maker. It may be enough to get you hooked on making videos, but you will soon run into it's limitations.

The next step up might be Magix Movie Edit Pro or Ulead VideoStudio Plus or Roxio VideoWave If you intend to get serious and really splash the cash then Adobe Premiere is a top-end product that will probably do much more than you will ever want. Adobe do however produce a little brother Premiere Elements which you can start with although just a little more expensive than the most basic programs. The major advantage Premier has is that it is available in a Mac version as well, whereas all the other programs mentioned are for the PC.
